Small company, Big Values
As a made-to-order manufacturing company, we are proud to take time off from work to spend with our friends and families over the holiday.
We will be closed Monday, July 3rd & Tuesday, July 4th.
Founded by Dave Hudyma, an Air Force Veteran, we have grown from a two-person upholstery shop to a company of nearly seventy employees. Our commitment to our customers, employees, and country is what keeps us thriving. Wishing you all a wonderful Independence Day. We look forward to connecting with you upon our return to the office on Wednesday, July 5th.
Dave Hudyma, originally from the North Shore of MN, joined the Air Force in 1961. He served for four years as a missile and silo electrician. The story goes he joined the Air Force to see the world, and he spent those four years in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Yet, Rapid City is where he learned upholstery. Working for Jean and Pat Colvin, he eventually bought AFCO Trim & Awning.
In the late 80s, the Hudyma's moved back to Minnesota. Dave's son, and current President of SCS Interiors, attended UMD, drawing the family back to their homestate.
In 1989, Dave continued the upholstery legacy here with Brigham Upholstery. This was your standard upholstery shop near 14th Ave E in Downtown Duluth. Mike spent countless hours in the upholstery shop in South Dakota and tinkered with his dad here and there for years. He joined the upholstery business full-time, after seven years of working with children with severe disabilities.
In the 90s, the request from Cirrus Aircraft changed the trajectory of Brigham Upholstery forevermore. The small upholstery shop became a manufacturing company, leading to the name change to SCS Aircraft Interiors and then simply where we are today as SCS Interiors. It is wild to think we only had 17 employees in 2009, which is when we moved into the current building in the Duluth Airpark.
From a small shop in South Dakota to a manufacturing facility with state-of-the-art equipment, we're proud of our journey. Just in the last year, we've worked on projects for airplanes, boats, trains, auditoriums, hospitals, restaurants, outdoor furniture, and more. And we love what we do. We attempt to provide world-class customer service and product quality every day because our owners remember the days of delivering a new set of seat covers directly to a customer, knowing full well that customers are and will always be your best marketing and referral for future success. In order to provide that world-class quality and old-school type service, we think our team could use the long weekend. Minnesota's summers are short!

Happy Independence Day, all.
