On March 20, an SCS employee sent a news story to our Director of HR about a local hospital requesting home-sewn face masks to help meet the high-volume needs of hospital workers. At that moment, we started thinking critically – how could we contribute during COVID 19?
We quickly sent out a message to our local hospitals, Essentia & St. Luke’s, offering our services if they were needed.
The next day we learned Frost River, another local manufacturing company, had taken up the PPE (personal protective equipment) initiative in full force and was off and running sourcing materials, planning production, and had distribution covered. Not only were face masks in need, but face shields too.
SCS Interiors transitioned to a supportive role in their operation, offering our assistance in any way we could. As a critical manufacturing company for the aerospace industry, our plate was already full. But our team was willing to go above and beyond to help.
Saturday, April 5th, we met up with the folks at Frost River and grabbed some materials to take back to our shop. In just over a day, we were able to cut enough plastic for almost 7000 face shields and about 12,000 pieces of elastic. Huge thanks to Justin, Corey, Mike & Jen for volunteering your time. These parts were delivered to our friends at Cirrus this week for final assembly. We are thankful to play a small part in this community operation (shout out to Aerostitch, too, who gave up some parts to get Frost River’s cutting table back up and running). It truly takes a village.
We’re willing and able to help on the next opportunity. If anyone out there has a bulk supply of material that could be used for creating masks or shields or other PPE, please reach out! We can create a pattern on our Gerber CNC cutting table and produce thousands of pieces in a relatively short amount of time. We could also gather some volunteers to do some sewing, too! Again, if cutting material is slowing you down, please connect with us. We want to help.

Stay safe everyone!
