Installation Instructions for a Replacement Cirrus SR Outer Door Armrest
- Adhesive Selection: Purchase a fast-setting polyurethane adhesive. You can find this at most home or auto part stores in a caulk-style tube.
- Removing the Old Armrest: The original armrests were glued to the door panel. Early model years were made of sponge rubber, which may tear off in pieces. Later model years were solid and will pry out. Carefully remove any remaining material.
- Surface Preparation:
- Test fit the new SCS armrest pieces.
- Remove or sand off any leftover adhesive or debris that prevents the new armrest from sitting flush against the door panel.
- Scuff the back of the SCS plastic part with 36-grit sandpaper for better adhesion.
- Applying Adhesive:
- Apply quarter-sized dabs of glue onto the door panel.
- Securing the Armrest:
- Position the new SCS armrest in place.
- Use weighted support, such as one-gallon bags filled with sand, to hold the armrest firmly against the door panel.
- Painter's tape can also be used, but avoid leaving it on too long to prevent damage to the surface color of the new armrest.
- Installation Approach:
- It is recommended to complete this process on a table, which requires removing the door panel from the aircraft.
- If keeping the door panel installed, work on one side at a time, with the aircraft door closed.
- Curing Time: Refer to the adhesive's instructions. Generally, the adhesive sets within 45–60 minutes.
